Join the fun as Taiwan Studies Grant recipients perform Taiwanese musical compositions, show a documentary, and present their summer research on September 24, 2015 at 4PM in FAB 220, the University of Alberta.Taiwan in Dynamic Transition Conference
The international conference “Taiwan in Dynamic Transition,” hosted by the Department of East Asian Studies at the University of Alberta, took place on May 25-26, 2013. Distinguished scholars from Australia, Canada, New Zealand, Taiwan, the United Kingdom, and the United States attended and presented original research on some of the most salient aspects of Taiwan’s social, political, and cultural transformation in the 20th and 21st centuries. Join us at the Garneau Cinema, March 30, for a showing of the documentary Sunflower Occupation 太陽不遠 which depicts the dramatic standoff that ensued when student protesters in Taiwan occupied their national parliament to protest the passage of a free trade pact with China. Characterized as a protest to save Taiwan's democracy, their demonstration offers a window into the politics of one East Asia's most dynamic societies.
